Myspace and Google Holding Hands Now?

December 1st 2006 18:07
Google Myspace

I try to convince myself not to be surprised when Google does something new and big, but it never works. I find I'm constantly dropping my jaw over decisions the search giant makes. It never ceases to amaze me.

This time it's with Myspace.com, a website that I hold deep hatred for, and it looks like Google has big plans.

From now on Google will be powering all Myspace search queries, and will have full command over the Myspace ad network. From a marketing perspective this was a brilliant move. Google now has the eyes of the worlds biggest social community and it can sit back and brand itself all day long.

Remember the days when Google powered Yahoo searches? It did wonders for them as far as marketing. As much as I hate Myspace, I can't deny this was a good move.

This was definitely a good move. From my brief experience with MySpace, it was instantly noticeable how horrible the home-made search spider was. Whenever I look for a band profile on myspace, I never use their search - i just search through google, because its so much quicker and easier.

Now, all we have to wait for is the combination of Google and Amazon to create Googlezon!

I could definitely see it coming mainly because myspace is very popular. I do not hate myspace personally because I have an account and it was kinda innovative when it first came into existence - mainly because it was a nice little way to get up to date news about music artists.

Jimbo, Googlezon would be great! Especially if they gave us a good paypal alternative.

Harsh, you're right on them being innovative. My hat goes off to them for that.

My hatred for myspace is simple really. Myspace has arguably one of my biggest internet pet peeves... music. I love music and listen to it anytime my laptop is on. And I listen loud. So why on earth does someone else think I want their music blasting through my speakers while I'm trying to listen to my own.

Very few things make me redder in the face than landing on a crappy Myspace page that rams music down your throat.

Come on people, don't put music on your websites. It sucks for those of us already listening to something.

Ah, I know what you mean. Yeah, people are kinda strange like that but there is an option in the myspace profile settings which disables automatic song playback when other users visit their pages.
But I totally agree with you, it does get annoying.

I think it's because the majority of Myspace users are building sites for THEMSELVES instead of visitors. This is why I wish Google would drop Myspace pages from the index.
