Could Advertising Give Us Free Cell Phones in the Future?

According to Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, it just might be possible as long as you're cool with a bit of targeted advertising.
"Your mobile phone should be free," Schmidt told Reuters. "It just makes sense that subsidies should increase" as advertising rises on mobile phones.
Personally, I think it's a great idea and I hope we start seeing a shift in that direction with mass marketing. It seems to me that if we're going to be constantly hit with marketing ideas at every turn we as the consumers might as well get something out of it. Makes sense doesn't it?
